It's been a while...

The past couple of weeks have been hectic. I had a wonderful birthday and my husband actually managed to surprise me with dinner at La Fondue in Saratoga with some of our friends. I was tricked into it.. one of my friends wanted to meet in Knitting Arts for my birthday. Who can say no to that? My husband was at home preparing for work, as he was on call or so he told me. My sneaky friend then mentioned going to La Fondue, the funny thing is I was almost ready to refuse. I thought well I can have an appetizer then get out of there(I was feeling guilty with my husband at home). There everyone was! I was quite surprised.

I have received so many wonderful gifts and cash, that magically turned into yarn, that I now must go on the one thing that is every knitters nightmare. The YARN DIET. Or I need to change the name of the blog to YARN ADDICT, I seem to collect more yarn than completing projects.

This weekend I seem to be attached to my computer, I keep getting paged for work. Everytime I think hrmm everything is good, I receive another annoying page. It should all be over in a coulple of hours and if not it will be Monday.

I attended my first candle party this weekend, it was hosted by my mom so of course I was going. I dragged two friends(one is Sequink). Those things are all about sales :) But I did learn all about candles. For instance did you know that you need to burn a candle 1 hour for every inch in diameter? Or that nylons will take the dust off all your show candles...

Got to go my pager is calling

Procrastination is Wonderful

Well I am supposed to be writing my review, and if you have ever had to write a review, you know what a pleasant and enjoyable activity that is! NOT. Don't get me wrong, I doing a good job. Just the process of sitting down and writing the review is horrible. Needless to say if I had completed it a month ago I would have been ahead of the game, but that is a different conversation. So instead I am going to finish the back of Smooch, get some rest and then get up early to finish the review. Wish me luck

Pictures Galore

Well I promised pics and here they are. Starting with Smooch.

I had the bright idea that I needed to knit on the way into work, it would give me an extra hour of knitting. However, I forgot to factor in the carsickness factor. I carpool with my husband and commute over highway 17 from the santa cruz area to san jose which is a very curvy road. So I can now only knit for about 1/2 the commute. The straight aways don't pose a problem.

Next pic is a wonder full knitting bag I received for my birthday. It's vinyl with no zippers to get catch the yarn and plenty of room for a sweater.

Also as you can see the pink/coral is for Audrey. This is the yarn that I traded in the Rag for. As you can see I needed a HAPPY color after the rag. The two balls of 4ply cotton are for Arabella, I need a quasi neutral set of colors to balance all the pink :)

Now onto the important pictures. This is Koyuk our Alaskan Malamute who thinks he is a person, a very spoiled person. As a matter of fact, he is in the next room smacking his chops waiting for dinner. According to him, Mom is spending way to much time on the blog and not serving his dinner fast enough.

Next is our beautiful Star Bear. The next pose is not very graceful or dignified but it depicts her pretty well. As undignified as she is, she will patiently wait like the saint she pretends to be for dinner. Pretends is key, just ask my cats (no injuries but plenty of barking and chasing).

Enough of the dog pics, on to important topics. I am on a Koigu search. I will be heading out to Knitters Studio and Uncommon Threads this weekend and who knows maybe I will make it to Article Pract. Can't wait to pick Koigu colorways in person, electronic pictures don't do it justice.

Batteries are Charging

Pictures should be up this evening. The batteries are in the charger now. It's going to be kind of embarassing as I haven't had time to even complete the back of Smooch and Martini is still on the blocking board....

Am I a web girl?

I keep changing my mind about Charlotte's Web. Half the time I look at the shawls and think they are wonderful. That's what I want for my bday. The other half of the time I think nope I won't wear it. I will work on it, enjoy it, admire it and put it in the back of the closet but never wear it. By the way the colorway Lichen at Threadbear is wonderful, but it's gone. I would have broken down for that colorway.

Oh and I do feel old. My mom being the generous person she is bought me some R2 Rag. Now, I usually love Rowan but I was less than enthusiastic about this yarn. It is a very heavy yarn and the color was an institiutional gray. So I thought, if I put the yarn on my desk where I can admire it the rag will grow on me. WRONG WRONG WRONG. I hated that yarn. This is the FIRST time I took yarn back and traded it in on Calmer for Audrey. The designs weren't anything I would actually wear in public for that yarn and it was so heavy and blah I didn't want to play with anything of my own. Anybody else out there have a similar reaction? Oh and don't worry I wasn't that blunt to my mom, because it was very generous of her to even think of me when she's yarn shopping.

Still progressing on Smooch. I promise to get pictures up by this weekend.

I also need to work on the site. I need to put up all of the references that I use all the time.

Stories of the Frog Pond

Smooch is coming along... I think I like to knit everything twice. I was a few rows from the arm shaping when I was looking at the lace pattern and 2 of the eyelets were driving me crazy. The stitches above them were too loose so it looked like an extra eyelet the more I stared at it ;) So of course I ripped it right out. I am almost back to the same spot. I decide to use the increase/decrease combo that Alison of the Blue Blog used in her, so far I really like the way it is turning out. I also fiddled with the numbers such that I should end up with a pattern that meets up fairly closely even on the side seams. Just dreading the fiddling with the neckline. I will not wear Smooch if you can see my navel ;0

In other frog pond news, the entire back of the katia sweater is sitting on the needles waiting to be ripped. It is entirely too long. If you did not stop decreasing at two inches (unlike the instructions in the pattern), by the time you finish the increase for the arms you are looking at a tunic to your thighs. Especially, if you measure the sweater horizontally instead of vertically. What can I say gravity got me again :)

Oh by the end of the week I should have pictures to spice up the place. I have a camera, I just can seem to get my act together to get the batteries charged and in the camera with the memory cards.

On the topic of interesting reads, take a look at the following site: http://www.kiddofspeed.com/chapter1.html . It's a photoblog of a girl's motorcycle ride through the Chernobyl area. Supposedly it's a hoax but it's still an interesting read. Here's the link that claims it's a hoax http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2004/05/fraud-exposed-and-true-thing.asp
