Well not much knitting to show for my hiatus... no on tells you how much time babies take... You always think that newborns sleep all the time. Well not mine!!!
I did manage to knit two baby hats, a diaper cover and get started on my clapotis. Pretty pathetic for six months. No pictures to show for now but I will post some soon. The funny thing about all of this is I did manage to accumulate more yarn. Don't know how that happened, maybe it was because I learned how to shop and feed her at the same time ;)
The baby girl is wonderful but I am still surprised about the things that no one really tells you or maybe they just don't sink in...
Like breastfeeding is a fulltime job initially. I mean you are either feeding, just finished feeding or preparing to feed (no one warns you about the cluster feedings and baby girl liked to cluster). That poop would become a topic of conversation (I can't count the number of times we were discussing the volume or frequency .. I know not at the dinner table). You really do become a walking zombie (sleep who needs sleep you are just about to feed, feeding or just finished feeding after all). Or that crying really is their form of communication for those first 6-12 weeks (nothing better than being half asleep really trying to comfort an upset baby who by this time doesn't want to feed and now you are really wishing the baby would feed). Just when you are about to pull out your hair because they just want the boob they smile... now you are really in trouble because the baby has you wrapped around their little finger. Then the baby starts developing (laughing, holding up it's head, rolling over etc.) and you now compare your child with everyone elses to make sure that the baby is developing normally. I have never worried so much or so intensely over anyone... It's also amazing how close your family becomes and I wouldn't change a thing...
Posted by Tiffany at November 4, 2005 7:40 AMOh yes ! I remember it well. My youngest daughter is 3 now but small babies really are time consuming. I remember when my eldest daughter was born (10 years ago - AAGH !!!), after a few weeks I genuinely couldn't recall how I previously filled my time. When childless friends complained about being "Soooo busy" I just looked at them. Yeah, right, I thought. :0)
Posted by: Heather at November 6, 2005 11:20 AMWelcome back. What do you mean not much to show? I recognize those diaper covers & how cute they were. That's huge! It really sounds like baby has changed your heart, not just your life. No surprise there! Can't wait to see a photo of her in something you knit.
