Updates on Home & Stash

Well Stitches West was a couple of weeks ago, so I am a little late on updates but here it goes.

I took three classes Fully Fashioned and Fabulous by Melissa Leapman which focused on how shaping is an integral part of the design. Next year I think I really would like to take her pattern drafting classes. Next was the "Numbers of Knitting" by Edie Eckman which focused primarily on the standard calculations for substitution of yarn and guages. However, she did go over a method for calculating increases or decreases for shaping that takes out the pain of trial and error. And last but not least, I took a class in "Japanese Shortrows". I can't wait to try this method in my next sweater, the method does not involve wrapping but it doesn't create any holes.

Now for the purchases:

  • Yarn

  • 2 packs of Noro Kureyon in color #148

  • 2 kits for beaded cuffs from Acorn Street

  • Hemp yarn in chocolate and cream

  • Patterns

  • Beaded Cuffs (figure no matter how pregnant I get I can still fit in cuffs)

  • 2 patterns from Lacy Little Top and Shell Border Tee

  • 3 patterns from Angelina, Bella and Heather

  • Books

  • Ondori's Basic Crochet & Knit aka The Scary Doll Book (illustrates the shortrow technique)

  • A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker (I know I should have had that already
  • Hope the husband doesn't decide to read my blog

As for my knitting updates, you would think I was a busy bee. Well between the house and the baby prep I have just been working on a brainless baby blanket in garter stitch that is knit from one corner to the other by either increasing or decreasing on every row. It's not very challenging but it is perfect for someone who doesn't have the powers of concentration she used to! I am finishing the papoose on the knitting machine, the papoose is just one long strip of stockinette, so after making it through 1 ball of yarn I realized hrmm this is what I bought that thing for!!! I am hoping to break out the machine and work on it next weekend.

House Updates... Well it's looking like I am going to win the race or at least we think that's the way it will go. They have almost completed the exterior siding except for the front gable and one side of the garage. The weather here has not been cooperating with the completion of the siding as it poured again for a week. The wiring is almost complete and the sprinkler system is almost in. Everything is almost in :) Hopefully the interior goes much quicker than I think it will.
